With concerns of a third wave, we discuss the unintended consequences of lockdowns.

Dr. Ari Joffe is a Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care since 1995. His interests include long-term outcomes after PICU admissions, ethics, and multicenter RCTs.

Matt Strauss is the former medical director of the critical care unit at Guelph General Hospital, Canada. He is now an assistant professor of medicine at Queen’s University.

About Dr. Ari Joffe:

Ari Joffe, ​MD, FRCPC is a Clinical Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care, University of Alberta. Ari is an attending physician in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He has interests in animal ethics [e.g., is it morally permissible to perform harmful animal research? (no)], and the definition of death [e.g., is brain death the state of death of the human organism? (no), and is the donation after circulatory death donor dead when organ removal starts? (no)]. His other research interests are in long-term outcomes in children having complex interventions in the pediatric intensive care unit, focusing on potentially modifiable acute care variables that may lead to improved decision making and outcomes. He has published broadly on these topics and others.

About Dr. Matt Strauss:

Matt Strauss – The Conversation

Matt Strauss is the former medical director of the critical care unit at Guelph General Hospital, Canada. He is now an assistant professor of medicine at Queen’s University.

Matt Strauss didn’t go to school until he was 14 years old. He studied literature at Waterloo and medicine at Western. He did specialty and subspecialty training at McGill and Western. He practices life support and resuscitation medicine at Guelph General Hospital where he is the medical director of the critical care unit. In addition, he is a clinical assistant professor at McMaster University. His writing is often motivated by skepticism. Journalistic interests include health policy, biotechnology, the economics and inequities of health, philosophy of medicine, fitness trends, sexual health and gender issues, nutrition science, urban planning, and the environment.
