Dr. Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, intensivist, palliative care physician, founder of the Resource Optimization Network, and host of the Solving Healthcare podcast leads these dynamic discussions pertaining to the benefits of low-carb and ketogenic diets.

About: Dr. Kwadwo Kyeremanteng

Dr. Kyeremanteng cares for the sickest of the sick in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Ottawa Hospital. His research focuses on making the ICU more efficient and improving access to palliative care services. To achieve this, he founded the Resource Optimization Network, a multidisciplinary research group working to reduce health spending in this area without compromising care. Dr. K, as he is fondly called, is a leading contributor helping the department to achieve its vision of shaping the future of Medicine.

Session 1: “What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know About Nutrition”

Dr. Paul Mason, MD

Dr. Mason is a Sport & Exercise Medicine physician specialist who earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Sydney, in addition to degrees in Physiotherapy and Occupational Health. Currently, he is a Specialist Registrar in the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Medicine. Dr. Mason has expertise in the latest science surrounding nutrition and weight loss. He helps his patients achieve their weight loss goals through a low carbohydrate/ketogenic diet approach.

Session 2: “LCHF Diets for Heart Disease and Health- The Crazy Cholesterol Question”

Ivor Cummins, BE, (Chem) CEng MIEI PMP

Ivor Cummins is a Biochemical Engineer who has spent over three decades in corporate technical leadership positions, where he specializes in leading large worldwide teams in complex problem-solving. He is the host of The Fat Emperor podcast. Since 2012, he has put extensive time into researching the root causes of modern chronic disease, with a particular focus on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. He speaks at engagements around the world to share key nutritional and lifestyle interventions to improve health and productivity. He also co-authored a book in 2018 with preventative medicine expert Jeffry Gerber MD, FAAP called “Eat Rich, Live Long”, which presents their joint research.

Session 3: “There’s No One-Sized-Fits-All Low-Carb or Keto Diet”

Joy Kiddie, MSc, RD

Joy Kiddie is a registered dietitian with a BSc from McGill University, and a MSc in Human Nutrition from the University of British Columbia. Joy is registered with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario and is licensed to provide Registered Dietitian services in every province in Canada, except PEI. She is also a long-standing member of Dietitians of Canada. Joy’s services are provided remotely via telemedicine software and her areas of practice include low-carb healthy eating, preventative nutrition, and therapeutic nutrition. She is known as “the low-carb healthy fat dietitian” and has expertise in low-carb and ketogenic diets.

Session 4: Panel Discussion

Dr. Kyeremanteng leads this expert-led panel discussion—this session is packed with insight and dynamic dialogue about the health benefits of low-carb and ketogenic diets. The panel approaches this topic with varied perspectives reflective of the experts’ training in nutrition and medicine.
